The same year, she was hired as an intern at An American Place restaurant for an entire year. Guarnaschelli began her culinary education by watching her mother prepare cookbooks, and testing recipes. The beginning of her culinary journey began when she observed her mom test recipes at home while editing cookbooks. Her final position was as chef in charge at Butter. Guarnaschelli was a contestant in 2007's Farmers Market Battle on Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she was up against Cat Cora. She has since appeared as an Iron Chef America judge as well as in the 2011 season of The Next Iron Chef season four where she was the third place finisher. She was eliminated from the Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast. She was elevated to sous-chef to Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian following the 4th season of The Next Iron Chef.
